APi Construction secures industry's premier turnkey insulation project

April 8, 2008 - The largest power project being built today in the United States is in Oak Creek, Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Michigan. Bechtel Power Corporation recently awarded APi Construction Company a contract to supply and install the insulation & lagging on two (2) side-by-side 615-megawatt Hitachi supercritical coal-fired boilers, the balance of plant piping systems, and subsequent air quality control systems at WE Energies’ new Elm Road Generating Station.

APi will install nearly 950,000 square feet of insulation & lagging on the Hitachi boilers, two (2) Hitachi steam turbines, two (2) Alstom Fabric Filter Dust Collectors, four (4) Howden in-line Induced Draft Fans, and other miscellaneous equipment. In addition, APi will install an estimated 124,000 linear feet of insulation & pipe jacketing on the balance of plant piping systems, boiler and turbine piping systems, and two (2) Alstom wet scrubbers.

“We are honored to be involved in a project of this magnitude, and we look forward to working with Bechtel to get these units on-line in 2010,” said APi’s Vice President of Construction, Jerry Pederson. “We have been targeting the Elm Road Project for several years as Bechtel is one of our most valued customers.”

APi Construction recently completed a similar single unit for Bechtel in 2006 at Salt River Project’s Springerville Generating Station Unit #3 in Arizona.

APi Construction’s Bob Miller, Matt Tuil, Adam Tollefson, Shaun Wigfield, and Justin Christopherson assisted in the take-off and developed the proposal pricing. Bob Miller will be APi’s lead project manager. Work is scheduled to begin in May 2008 and conclude in Spring 2010.
