AN OBVIOUS CHOICE

January 14, 2008 - In March 2007 Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler Co. submitted its bid to design and install an INERGEN® system along with air sampling and pre-action systems to protect a computer room requiring an immediate reaction to fire. The bid was above the client’s original budget, but the client recognized value first and chose Davis-Ulmer.

“The client knew Davis-Ulmer could handle the job right and within the time frame,” said Davis-Ulmer Sales Representative Al Christopher.

Davis-Ulmer designed and installed the piping system, nozzles, and 100 INERGEN tanks for the system size of approximately 44,000 cubic feet.

“This is the largest INERGEN system our company has installed in its 60-plus years in business,” said Project Manager and Design Technician Bob Hauck.

INERGEN is an environmentally-friendly gas-based agent that suppresses fire with a high pressured suppression system. It has zero ozone depletion potential and zero atmospheric lifetime. The installation protects miles of computer wires and mechanical piping between a raised floor and a concrete subfloor within the client’s computer room.

Davis-Ulmer also designed and installed the extension of existing and new pre-action systems, two additional Siemens addressable network panels and 10 Vesda air sampling systems. The pre-action system uses an electrical signal from smoke / heat detectors and pressure switches which detect loss of air in the pressurized system. It was installed to protect the computer room and additional support rooms.

According to Christopher the client was highly satisfied. “The commitment of many people behind the scenes is what made this project so successful,” Christopher said. “Two additional projects may be constructed in the near future and we have already been informed that we will be handling the fire protection for those projects.”
