LeJeune Steel scores big with Minnesota Stadium
The process began with LeJeune’s engineers and detailing teams, who created a detailed 3D model of how the steel will be laid out and fit together. As different portions of the model were completed, it was then sent to the general contractor for coordination and to identify any clashes or interferences with other trades.
“This is an exceptional project for LeJeune and its partners to have played an integral role in,” said LeJeune Project Manager Rick Torborg. “The stadium will be a symbol for the University of Minnesota and the state for many years to come.”
After six months of preparation and fabrication, the erection of steel started on schedule, January 25, 2008, with two cranes. By the beginning of April, four cranes were in full swing onsite, hoisting steel. To date 8,000 tons of material has been shipped to the site, with completion of the erection expected in September.
