Vipond Fire Protection installs Vehicle Suppression Systems for Elk Valley Corporation

March 6, 2007 - Vipond Fire Protection installed Kidde Vehicle Suppression systems for the Elk Valley Coal Corporation located near Sparwood and Elkford in southeastern British Columbia.

Elk Valley Coal is the Northern Hemisphere's leading producer of metallurgical hard coking coal for the global steel industry. Responsible for about one sixth of the global seaborne market supply, Elk Valley Coal is the second-largest supplier of its product in the world.

Elk Valley Coal operates six open pit mines in western Canada; Coal Mountain, Fording River, Greenhills, Elkview, Line Creek and Cardinal River. Five mines are located in southeastern British Columbia and one in west-central Alberta, and comprise a combined production capacity of more than 25 million tonnes of high grade metallurgical coal annually.

Vipond installed systems on approximately 6 new Shovels, 30 new Hall Trucks, 6 new Dozers, 6 new Excavators and 6 new Drills. They also installed a variety of Dry Chemical, FM-200® & CO2 suppression agents and a variety of heat detectors, Protectowire and UV devices for the detection side of the systems and Notifier & Kidde Control for the panels.
