Jacobs Technology announced they received a contract from Wind Shear Inc., to design and construct the first motorsports 180 mph wind tunnel, consisting of a rolling road to test full-scale NASCAR race cars.  The $40 million wind tunnel will be constructed in Concord, N.C.

Grunau Metals has been selected to be on Jacobs technical team to build the wind tunnel by detailing, fabricating and installing internal steel components.  Having had several successful projects with Jacobs in the past, Grunau Metals will continue to build on this ongoing relationship for future successes.

This is the first 180 mph rolling-road wind tunnel in North America and the third in the world. It will provide a 180-mph rolling road under the vehicle’s tires to accurately simulate actual racing conditions and is considered the most advanced wind tunnel in the world. Construction on the 40,000-square-foot facility began April 5, and is scheduled for completion in 2008.
