At
APi Group, Inc., our employees are our biggest asset and differentiate
us from our competition. Their individual safety is taken very
seriously and is of the highest priority within our organization.
It’s not something we just talk about; we live it each and
every day. From our President & CEO, throughout every discipline
there is an expectation that we will provide a safe place to work,
and at the same time conduct our tasks with respect to safe work
practices. Our obligation is to send our employees’ home
in the same condition as when they arrived at work.

We
believe these “STEPS” are necessary to reducing
all causes of loss and protecting our employees and those who
work along side of us. |
Our Company is
committed to employee safety and loss prevention. This is most evident
by the 20 + dedicated Safety Professionals working in varying capacities
throughout the organization. Our Risk Management
Department and Safety Professionals have developed and implemented a
world-class Safety and Health Program that serves as the foundation for
our safety policies and procedures and has been applauded by Industry.
This program is the backbone for our safety performance and the guide
for conducting our tasks in a safe and productive manner. With the implementation
of this program, we have seen reductions in our Experience Modification
Rate, incident and frequency rates, as well as overall losses.
 In
2005, our leadership challenged the organization’s Safety Professionals
to develop, implement, and ultimately champion a new loss prevention
initiative in 2006. After a two day meeting, the team adopted the following
moniker to best capture the intent of the program. “STEPS” stands
for Striving for Excellence and Professionalism in Safety and is supported
by the following beliefs as essentials for the safety of our employees
and the overall success of the Company:
- Training – This
is a key element in our program. We have established clear expectations
for employees at all levels. Each employee will receive training
and education that compliments their respective level of responsibility.
Accountability – We
each have responsibility for workplace safety. We have developed
an auditing function that effectively communicates safety and loss
prevention information to supervision in an effort to monitor project
and / or site specific safety performance. This tool will aid in
proactively correcting deficiencies in a timely fashion, at the
same time providing feedback on the observed behaviors and or practices
that are positive.
- Project
and or Job Pre-Plans – We know that a project
and / or job operates more seamlessly with a well orchestrated
plan. The more we know ahead of time the more prepared we can
be in hazard recognition and avoidance. Each Company within the
group is establishing programs to effectively pre-plan their
work in effort to proactively reduce incidents, injuries, and
illnesses
|
Enforcement – We
shall not allow ourselves to condone unsafe work practices by not
addressing the issue or turning a blind eye. Enforcement of our
policies, procedures, and safe work practices is a shared responsibility.
It is essential and necessary that we enforce our safe work rules
swiftly and consistently.
- Injury/Illness/Incident
Management – We firmly believe that injuries,
illnesses, and incidents are preventable; not inevitable. However,
when they do occur we must respond in a timely fashion and generate
corrective action(s) that will prevent reoccurrence. We also
believe that our Executive Management must be personally engaged
and take a more active role in the investigation process including
enforcement of our safe work rules and policies.
