Senior Vice President of Safety Services
Steve Ulmer is the senior vice president of safety services for APi Group.
Beginning in 2020, he returned to his roots working alongside the fifteen separate operating companies in the safety services segment.
He brings a wealth of experience and passion for life safety and fire protection
Ulmer is the former president and CEO of Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler Co., a third-generation family business and an APi Group company since 2005. In 2011, he came on board APi Group, serving in roles that have included chief operating officer, senior vice president of special projects and vice president of risk and safety.
Ulmer maintains a close relationship with the United Association (UA) which oversees a number of different local unions, including more than 6,000 APi Group employees working as plumbers, steamfitters and sprinkler fitters.
A member of sprinkler fitters local union 669 for more than 45 years, Ulmer began his career at Davis-Ulmer in 1972. In 1973 he entered 669’s apprentice program and in 1977 became a sprinkler fitter. He worked his way through the ranks of Davis-Ulmer to become its president in 1988. Remaining constant is Ulmer's commitment to teach and mentor people in the life safety space.
Ulmer currently serves as a board member for the National Fire Sprinkler Association, serving on multiple committees. Ulmer is also a lifetime member of the Ellicott Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He is a past-president and current member of the board of directors of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. Ulmer has also held board positions at Key Bank, Children’s Hospital, The Construction Exchange of Buffalo and Western New York, and the University of Buffalo Athletic Department.
In his spare time, he enjoys golf and tennis. He calls Buffalo, NY home.
