Mel Olson, P.E.
United Piping Inc.
As far back as Olson can remember, he wanted to be an engineer. His passion lead him to North Dakota State University. Armed with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering, Olson accepted a position at Enbridge Energy. There he designed and managed construction of additions on main pump stations.
In 1999, Olson moved to Ayres Associates as a project manager where he designed and managed the construction of pipeline projects as well as performed municipal engineering services.
In 2006, Frontier Pipeline recognized Olson’s talents and made him vice president-responsible for market development, bidding, contract negotiations, and project management for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) projects across the United States. He also obtained and maintained state construction licensure status across the United States.
Prior to joining the UPI team, Olson was vice president at Southeast Directional Drilling headquartered in Casa Grande, Arizona. There he performed the same duties as his previous job. Olson also supervised the engineering staff and internal project managers.
Olson brings a broad range of experience to every project UPI undertakes and is responsible for the construction operations of the company, direction for project managers, costs and scheduling, business development, growth strategies, and contract/project/labor negotiations.
