December 19, 2005 - APi Construction Company has begun work on an environmental retrofit at Xcel Energy's Allen S. King Plant. The King Plant is a coal burning power plant located 30 miles east of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro area in Bayport, Minnesota.Built in the mid-1960's, the King Plant is equipped with a cyclone boiler that produces more than 500 megawatts of electricity. The 30+ year old boiler is 20 stories high and is one of the few boilers of its vintage in the nation that has not been retired in recent years.
