March 21, 2011 - Feb. 23, 11 - LeJeune Steel Co. added one of Chicago's leading independent hospitals, the Swedish Covenant, to its lengthy list of successful health care projects with Power Construction.
The 238,000 square-foot hospital addition includes a state-of-the-art surgical center and medical office space. A five-level parking garage will consume the hospital's base and the next four levels of framing requires 750 tons of structural steel.
Sister company, Wisconsin Structural Steel, will fabricate steel for the penthouse, cooling tower and sky bridge, which connects to the existing hospital. Typical framing will consist of 62-foot purlins with copes and cambers. LeJeune plans to support the building's exterior with curtain wall bracing and attached bent plate.
