J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. originated in Fort Lee, New Jersey in 1923. At first the company, using a small rack truck, made deliveries and performed miscellaneous trucking jobs.

When construction of the George Washington Bridge began, a need developed for dump trucks to haul rock and fill from the huge abutments and roadway systems leading to the bridge. With the purchase of its first dump truck, Creamer made its entry into the construction business.

The 1960s saw Creamer enter a long relationship with numerous utility companies. To this day the relationship with utility companies around the country is the backbone of the business.

Through the 1960s, 1970s and into the 1980s, the company steadily grew and reached some unimaginable milestones. It was in the 1980s that J. Fletcher Creamer, Jr. took the reigns as president; the company purchased a guide rail company and began installing guide rails and signs; corporate headquarters moved to Hackensack, New Jersey; the first helicopter was acquired; and we entered the pipe cleaning and lining business.  The gas line business became a part of the portfolio and the company had 300 employees. Creamer also replaced the artificial turf at Giants Stadium in 1988.

In the 1990s, the formal safety program was established; the California office opened; sales reached $100 million; and the company celebrated 75 years with 600 employees.

During the mid-1990s, the fiber optic boom erupted and Creamer quickly reacted. With specialized equipment, we began installing fiber optic across the United States and were named one of the 10 largest telecommunications companies in America. Major highway projects were undertaken and Creamer became well known for its vibrant outlook on road and bridge construction and early completion of these projects made industry news.

Reaching the millennium, we saw major growth in all facets of construction. We became heavy into roads and bridges, pile driving and site development. We began doing the largest volume of cleaning and lining in the country. We started building parking garages, installing guide rail in numerous states, including Florida and California, and had 1,000 employees and close to 1,000 pieces of equipment.

In 2006, Fletch Creamer, Jr. became CEO and Joseph T. Walsh became president of J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc.

In the last 10 years, the business continues to spiral upward. Directional drilling, renewable energy, jack and bore, gas, telecommunications, electrical work, drilled shafts, marine work, numerous types of pipeline rehabilitation, transmission tower foundations, and emergency work are performed with great attention to safety, quality and with determination to satisfy every client. The company now employs over 1,000 people and has a fleet of well over 2,000 pieces of equipment.

J. Fletcher Creamer & Son, Inc. has been recognized by ENR as a TOP 400 Contractor in the United States for 29 consecutive years.

The hard hat logo and the corporate brown color are very recognizable around the country. We are a very proud company and we display with honor the American flag on every piece of equipment.
